Author Bio

Dr Sindiwe Magona is a South African writer that has written over 100 children’s books, stage plays and short stories. Dr Magona has worked in various capacities for the United Nations for over 20 years, retiring in 2003. Dr Magona published two autobiographies: To My Children’s Children and Forced To Grow; two collections of short stories – Living Loving and Lying Awake at Night and Push-Push and Other Stories. Magona also published four novels including Mother to Mother, Beauty’s Gift, Life is a Hard but Beautiful Thing, and Chasing Tails of my Father’s Cattle!

In 2022, Dr Magona became the first person to receive a PhD degree in Creative Writing at the University of the Western Cape. Dr Magona writes in English and isiXhosa and translates for various media which includes film. Her novel Beauty’s Gift was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writer’s Prize Best Book, in the African region.
